Wow, what a start to April it has been this year, just about every day so far has been bee flying weather and the blighters on absolute fire. Local pollen and nectar sources are properly on point. A highly unexpected oil seed rape field has even popped up out of nowhere (There’s some farmers you’ve just got to love.) The early presence of plenty of drones and good drone flying weather forecast, means only one thing, grafting time.
Starter and finisher colonies were set up at the start of the month, with the first batch of grafts going in on the 6th of April. So touch wood and we will have a plentiful supply of queens in the pipeline by the end of the month.
Courting disaster here, but could this year be a good year for both bees and honey?
