Return To ShopHiggins & Rose is a modern-day collaboration twixt science and conservation within apiculture. The role and the evolution of today’s honeybee is both extraordinary and important, not only in relation pollination but also in the protection and understanding of the less prolific bee species. From what we can understand and learn from the honeybee and it’s ecological niches both direct and associated, the knock-on effects of such knowledge will only benefit other pollinators and their environmental interactions.
While the British Isles are globally important for Earth’s fauna and flora, equally they are one of the most nature depleted areas in the World. So grave is the situation, never has there been a more crucial and important time to invest in the natural world that’s on our doorstep.
Whilst the original interest of Higgins & Rose was primarily the generalist study of insect natural history, the interest has now been developed and honed into bee breeding, pollination and conservation projects, while utilising some of the best honeybee genetics available the world over. Our Breeder Queen bees even come with at least a seven generation pedigree.
Here at Higgins & Rose, we breed the Buckfast line of honeybee, and breed for traits such as fecundity, disease resistance, gentleness, honey production and a disinclination to swarm.
Albeit, one minor inconvenience arising from these bee breeding and conservation projects, is the various surplus to requirements, amounts of unique and slightly differing honeys and waxes from our apiaries.
Absolutely wonderful, slow burning and aromatic candles. They arrived very quickly and were perfect for my event.
I added these as sprinkles on top of creamed honey on toast... Perfect accompaniment! Highly recommended
This honey is absolutely incredible, all three are spectacular in their own way. The depth of flavour is stunningly gorgeous and if you have any issues, (thanks Royal Mail for obliterating my first package 🙄) Niall is SO lovely and helpful! I will be a customer for life! Highly recommend!
Tried a new supplier and I am very pleased with the three jars I bought. I am presently using the Honeycomb Honey - delicious! I am looking forward to tasting the creamed and runny honey. As my husband prefers jam or marmalade it will take me sore time to use it all up but I am sure it will all be great and good value for money.
I like trying different Honey's and found Higgins & Rose through an online search. Great service from Niall and the team and for the quality of the honey I think the price is good value for money. The three honey's are all delicious but the Creamed Honey is extra special! I have tried Creamed honey's in the past but this one is extra silky smooth and has a lovely velvety sweet taste. It's super spreadable and goes perfect on toast or a crumpet. It also dissolves well in tea or coffee as a sweetener. I will definitely purchase more when the current jars are empty which won't be too long.
I was surprised to receive my order three days early and the Queen was healthy with her maids and very competitively priced. I have forwarded this company to my club at temple newsham Leeds. Highly delighted and hope to fo more business in the future
Queen shipped a few days late due to poor weather - but arrived carefully packaged and H&R customer service was excellent. First experience and I’ll use again
Lovely Honey and good quality, it's real Honey delicious x I will buy again and again xx
Great customer service. Fair price
The honey is really good,I will be buying again and again xx
I'm an archer using traditional equipment - a longbow and wooden arrows. I also make my own arrows.
I used Hit for Six to finish a recent batch of a dozen arrows and it was perfect! Light, clean, easy to apply - and having that direct link to the products used by the arrowsmiths of the past was satisfying.
The overall finish was lovely and I know the product will protect my arrows from the punishment they'll face transported in the quiver, the weather and effects of being shot across a bow.
The service, advice and delivery I received from Niall couldn't be faulted.
I've recommended his product to others and have even bought tins of Hit for Six as gifts for friends at my archery club.
We love this honey. What a find.
Grandsons love this
A beautiful set of honey
These little chunky wonders are great
Organic honey with almost a thousand years of unchanged flavours. If you want something modern but old, this honey is for you.
Our Apiaries are located in and around Sherwood Forest and Heather Heath which predates the formation the royal hunting forest of Sherwood circa 1066AD.
Our bees are our number one priority. We harvest only a small percentage of the honey that is produced, ensuring our bees have a strong, healthy store of honey to see them through the winter months.
We breed the Buckfast signature of honeybee, and breed for traits such as disease resistance, gentleness, honey production and a disinclination to swarm. The best of the best.
As responsible Beekeepers, we have a duty of care to the insects we care for and the people who are in our community.
Our pollen is dried, bagged and available as a natural antihistamine for Hayfever sufferers. Sold as natural granules, you can measure out and take by the spoonful or add to foods like granola or yogurt.
All of our honey is raw (unpasturised), cold extracted from the hives with minimal interference to the bees as possible. Our organic honey comes from the legendary Sherwood forest and surrounding heathland, untouched by pesticides or chemicals.
